Community Services are provided through the Compassion House Community Development Corporation (CHCDC).
Reverend Norma K. Canty, Founder/CEO of The Compassion House Community Development Corporation is a North Broooklyn based 501 (c) 3 non--for- profit organization. The Compassion House CDC is an extension of Urban Outreach Program started in 1975 by Revrend Hattie Downer. In 1996 Pastor Canty and other members of the Church started giving a cup of coffee and a bagle to one or two homeless men, that has grown to helping over 3700 men, women and children monthly.
The name was changed in 2007 (based on Jude 22, and some have compassion making a difference) to further our humanitarian outreach services. We offer inter-faith spiritual support, prayer and chaplain services, substance abuse weekly meetings, emergency food, hot breakfast, sign-up for health insurance, and a wide-range of referral services for those who need our services. We are affiliated with several donors such as: United Way of New York, Foodbank for New York City, New York City Human Resources, City Harvest, Emergency Food and Shelter Program. (we need those logos)
Pastor Canty is called the “Community Pastor” because the Compassion House CDC keeps its doors open to serve and minister to all that reach out for our help in our multicultural community. She has dedicated several years and assumed many responsibilities to make her vision come to be what it is today. She continues to provide visionary ideas, and foresights needed for the Compassion House CDC's future.
